Chongqing, China, February 2010 I participated in a 4-week artist residency at the 501 Artspace in Chongqing, China. This residency offered the opportunity to realise a project with the support of a studio space and the Chongqing artist community. China was of specific interest as it has a rich history of performance artists making work domestically and internationally. Work that I actually realised during the residency period was a street intervention, end of show ‘happening’ and an improvised stage performance. During my time in China there were a number of events happening such as the ‘International Arts Festival’ in Chongqing and ‘Expo’ in Shanghai was being heavily promoted. Simply going about my daily business was an event in itself moving around locally and speaking would attract a lot of attention. From this experience I made work in reaction to these events. ‘Event Culture’ is an international phenomenon a theme that has continued in my work. This work was supported by Arts Council England.
